If your after some simple classic Italian style pizza you must try Pizza Mario, A small restaurant on Burke St making what their website calls ‘’pizza with discipline’’. No super supreme or ham and pineapple here just simple toppings on a thin base. As you walk through the door you can see into the kitchen with its big wood fire oven on the benches there are big pieces of prosciutto, salami etc just like in a deli. They don’t take bookings so on busy nights you might have to wait.
I have eaten here many times the food always is good , fresh and full of flavour. My favourite pizza is the ‘salamino’ with mozzarella, ricotta and spicy salami the heat of the salami alongside the ricotta make for an excellent combination.
Best pizza in Sydney? With so many good places around its hard to say and there is always that place you haven’t tried. I always find myself coming back here so for now I’m calling it best pizza in Sydney!
Rocket and parmesan $8
Patate – sliced potato, sea salt and rosemary $15 – Simple but tasty , sprinkle on some chilli oil and enjoy
Salamino – mozzarella, ricotta and spicy salami $22.5 – Favourite
Salsicce con cime di rape mozzarella, spicy sausage and cime di rape $23.5 – the cime di rape (turnip tops, had no idea what that was until I asked) are very bitter! Even when eaten with the pizza taste is overpowering unless you like bitter taste best not to order this one.
