Aria – Sydney

The last time I went to Aria was many years ago after reading the restaurant had a huge make over I decided to go check it out.  The renovated restaurant space looks fresh but not too different to the original, of course the amazing harbor views remain the same.

For the weekend lunch & dinner the  menu is 2 course $115 , three $145 & four $170 this includes salad and mash potatoes with so many appealing things on the menu I opted to go for the four courses.

The food is a little different to what you might expect from a restaurant of this caliber. No fancy gastronomic creations just simple dishes executed perfectly.  I really enjoyed the meal I had here. If you have not tried out the new Aira I would definitely recommend it.

Quay Restaurant – The Rocks Sydney

Quay is no doubt one of Sydney’s best restaurants with exceptional food, service & amazing views. Delivering everything you would expect from a restaurant of this caliber and more.

The standout savory dish for me was the mud crab congee sounds boring but packs so much flavor nothing like any other congee I have had before.  Desserts is all about the Snow Egg. It is really worthy of all the hype. I want to go back to Quay just to have another one!

The 4-course meal I had here was $175 they also have a tasting menu for $235. On the day I dined here there was a cruise ship docked so it was blocking the view towards the Opera House, there was still views of the Harbour Bridge. If you want the full view experience best to check if a boat will be in on the day of your booking.

Bennelong – Sydney Opera House

Bennelong has a  3-course al carte menu with sides of potatoes and salad for $130 or  $100 for 2 courses (lunch only). Considering the surrounds and the quality of the food, it is quite reasonable.

The space that the restaurant occupies is amazing ,with views of the city and harbour. The high ceilings that form the shape of the sail make it feel very grand and the restaurant seems much larger than it is.  As far as restaurant locations go, it doesn’t get any better than this.

In spite of the great views and service, I wasn’t blown away by the meal I had. Every dish was good but not amazing and the presentation at times needed some wow factor. The desserts , however were spectacular, Peter Gilmore’s eight textured chocolate cake (called chocolate cake from across the water on the menu) is something everyone should try at least once. The waiter adds the 8th texture by spooning hot chocolate sauce on top melting its way through the cake. Probably the best chocolate cake you will ever have. The crème caramel vs mille-feuille even after the high bar set by the chocolate cake is an  impressive dessert too.

All that said I would still come back as I would like to try a few other dishes from the menu and the location makes it a perfect place to bring out of town visitors to.
