Acre Eatery – Camperdown


From the street looking you might think it was a mini farm/garden but walk in past this and you will Acre Eatery. There are two sections one a casual cafe and the other a restaurant.  This was food was from the garden terrace cafe. There is a large balcony with tables along with a grassed area with some tables. You place your order at the bar and the food is brought out to you.

The food was good quite satisfying but not great. The smashed roasted pumpkin was a top dish big on flavor exactly what I like for breakfast, however the other dishes did not match its standard the Acre breakfast plate was boring plane tasting same with the salmon.

Love the setting but the food was disappointing.

Coast 89 – Toowoon Bay


Mum moved to the Central Coast a few months back, to enjoy the coastal life. Any time that we go to visit we try and squeeze in a visit to Coast 89. Initially just for breakfast, they have a great breakfast menu.  It wasn’t until our 4th or 5th visit that we went for dinner. We were glad that we did. There dinner menu was short and simple, with almost everything on the menu sounding delicious. We started out with some bread, my step dad loves garlic bread, and with two different choices, we had to try both. Next out was the oysters and spring rolls. I wished the spring rolls had come with a Hoisin or a Nuoc Cham rather than the sesame sauce which was a little overpowering. When the mains came, every one was happy with their choices and how they tasted. On to desert…

One interesting thing to note, the cakes and pies were made by a couple of local ladies. The cakes are not available to purchase directly from these ladies and they appear to only make cakes for local establishments. I’m not sure if this is true, but if anyone knows the owners or the cake ladies, I would love to know the story of how the arrangement came about. Now, I like my deserts, so when I say to you that these cakes are some of the best that I have had, I’m pretty confident you will also enjoy them.

Garlic Bread  $5 – 

Who doesn’t love garlic bread? These two slices of bread had been buttered then toasted giving the butter a nutty taste.

These bad boys were tongue burning hot when they came out. The taste was more subtle than what I was expecting from a spring roll made with duck, they were oily but managed to stay crispy.

Grilled lemon pepper Barramundi with potato crisps and a pear, Parmesan and rocket salad $28 –

Tender Barramundi on crispy potato’s; those potato’s are cooked so that the edges are super crispy whilst having fluffy centers .

At first glance I thought the two things on top of the fish were figs, nope, capers. I had one of those moments, where you are eating one thing but thinking it is another. At first you taste what you think you are eating until your taste buds disagree with your brain and correct the issue. I loved the experience.


Coast89 - Chicken

Pumpkin, spinach and Brie Stuffed Chicken, wrapped in prosciutto $32 – 

I can not, not order something that is wrapped in prosciutto. This chicken breast had Brie oozing out of its center which added to the creamy sauce already on the plate.

Stuffed Mushrooms filled with sun-dried tomatoes, capsicum, pumpkin, ricotta, spinach and Parmesan $22 –

It is great to find a vegetarian dish on a menu that can hold its own. The mushrooms were cooked perfectly and had absorbed the flavour of the toppings; the ricotta topping gave a creaminess to  go with the meatiness of the mushrooms.

Lemon Meringue Pie

Lemon Meringue Pie $9.50 – 

Well constructed with a generous meringue to lemon curd ratio, always a favourite for me.

Banoffi Pie  $9.50 –

OK, this was AMAZING! Everyone at the table was jealous of my selection, doubly so after they had tried it. The banana was still yellow and firm which cut through the richness of the other components and the cookie base had crumble and crunch. Having ice cream with the pie was overkill, but it is dessert, one of the few times overkill is encouraged

Coast89 - Cherry Ripe Cheesecake

Cherry Ripe Cheesecake  $9.50 –

Decent, nothing note worthy, but I suspect it had to contend with the other deserts out there on the day and was outshone by the others. Still a gorgeous desert on its own and would order it if the others were not available. And yes that is crumbled Cherryripe on the top of the cake.

Elizabeth Cafe


I stumbled across Elizabeth’s Cafe when my partner dragged me on a walk around Glebe. The food at Elizabeth’s was amazing. So I made a sure to go back, this time with my camera.

Part of Elizabeth’s food philosophy is to try and capture what food was like back when everything was made by hand. It really shows in the taste of the food. Everything tastes just like you would expect, but there is a little something that you cant put your finger on until you know that it’s all made by hand, even the mayo and pesto.  The cafe sits half way up Glebe point road near the post office, so if someone is dragging you around Glebe, check it out. Even if you are not getting dragged around, it’s well worth the walk.

After our lunch we headed up to Glebe markets where we shared a Hungarian Kürtőskalács (“doughnut”).

We opted for the cinnamon coating. If you have not had one of these yet, you don’t know what you are missing.
