I like the concept of arrivals lounges, it’s nice to have a place to freshen up before leaving the airport. Cathay Pacific provides this with their Arrivals Lounge at Hong Kong Airport.
The lounge is outside the main airport its actually under the Airport Express station. You can get access to the lounge if you have flown Cathay Pacific or Dragonair in business / first class, or have Oneworld Emerald status.
The lounge itself is really quite small its essentially one room divided up with showers on one side and the lounge part with separated dining area and there is no natural light inside therefore a bit dark. Most people myself included just have a shower and grab a quick bite to eat then leave. The food/beverages on hand are limited just some salads, fruit, pastries along with the Asian selection comprising of wontons & rice. Its nothing like you would find in Cathays other lounges inside the airport. There are only a few places to sit either on some lounge chairs or on a long bench with stools that’s about it.

The shower rooms have plenty of space and are fitted out very nicely.
To sum up a nice all be it a small lounge, good place to have a shower after a long flight. Not a place you would hang around for a long time.

Take a look at Cathay Pacific’s The Pier First Class Lounge at Hong Kong airport. It does not feel like you are in an airport at all it has a real homely vibe to it. Food wise there is a ‘pantry’ fully stocked with pastries, cheese crackers, tea/coffee, snacks etc. There is also a restaurant with a la carte menu.
One of the coolest things in this lounge are they ‘day suites’ which is a small room with a couch/bed in it that you can relax in with a nice view over the airport or close the curtains and have a sleep.
This is definitely one of the nicest lounges I have been to.

Before getting on my Virgin Australia flight to Sydney I headed to the Star Alliance lounge wich Virgin Business class passengers have access to. The lounge is located on level 6 of the Tom Bradley International Terminal .The lounge itself is really big spread out of different areas there is even and outdoor roof terrace with a view over the tarmac which is really cool. Throughout the lounge there are LA quotes on them like “there was more good acting at Hollywood parties then ever appeared on screen – Bette Davis” a fun addition to the space. Everywhere you sit down there is power point not too far away which is always good.
The buffet is a Western Asian mix I was there at night so it was all dinner type options , the food was OK good for a pre-flight snack if I wanted a full meal I would be a bit disappointed. There is also bar with a large selection of wines and other drinks both alcoholic and not.
Overall a really nice Lounge , I especially liked the outdoor roof terrace its great to get some fresh air before a long flight.
